The fish has been caught and filleted, now what?
Proper fish storage is essential to preserve your catch. We are going to dive into two methods: refrigerating fish and freezing fish.
Refrigerate Fish
If you are going to eat your catch within two days, refrigerating them is the way to go.
- Wash the fish fillet with cold water (no soap).
- Pat dry with paper towels.
- Then wrap it in plastic wrap, aluminum foil, or wax paper.
- Place it in the refrigerator.
- Make sure to clean and disinfect your sink and any areas the fish touched.
Freezing Fish
The best way to freeze fish is by vacuum sealing the storage bag or plastic freezer bag making sure it is airtight.
OR
Place fish in a plastic freezer bag (make it airtight), double wrapped in plastic wrap, or freezer paper and then place in the freezer.
Ideally fish should be stored in the freezer for only 3 to 6 months.
