What is Fish Chum?
Fish chum is used to attract fish and increase your catch. There are different types of fish chum depending on what you are looking to reel in, but it typically is made of fish guts and oily fish parts. The easiest way of chumming is by using frozen chum blocks and a net style chum dispenser. Chum comes in different forms besides frozen like dry, liquid, or gel chum. You can use homemade chum (frozen or fresh). Some other options if you are out on the water and didn’t bring chum is to cut up pieces of bait fish, use fish carcasses tied to a line, or put a wounded fish on the line in the water.
Chumming Tips
- Don’t dump a massive load of chum. Use a slow and steady stream to continuously attract fish.
- Make sure to drift your hook bait back at the same pace of the drifting chum. You can do this by pulling the line by hand from the rod tip.
- Take your time and let the fish come to you.
- Carefully watch the surface looking for fish movement or better yet, a fish frenzy!
